Choose Wisely: Make or Break Your Space

The creation of rooms and homes requires people to know how to plasmate what's necessary into the design.

Furniture is indeed the soul of a home: They are the pieces that reflect people living in them, and function as the base for their lives. In fact, they are the force behind a great room, and the experiences waiting to happen within those rooms. That’s why when people are creating their spaces, one of the things they have to keep in mind is that these items need to be a reflection of the personality of the individuals living in them, because in the end, that’s what makes or breaks a decor. Therefore, I want you to learn the importance of having the right assistance whenever you are looking for furniture.

Making decoration work for your clients, is crucial, and in order to do this, you need to make sure that every element in the room makes sense. This can be achieved by creating a plan beforehand, and taking the proper notes and measures on the aspects you’ll need to work on. Asking yourself questions on functionality requirements, such as: Will my clients need an office space? Will they require a big amount of storage for a certain area or items? Will they want special kind of appliances for each space? Acknowledging these aspects of their lives before you even start making trips to the furniture and appliances stores, is the way to make sure that the space meets the requirements of the people who will live in the property. Investigating and learning the important aspects of their lives is what makes for a thoughtful design, in which they can portray their interest and that works as a canvas where they will paint with their memories.  Becoming a place to experiment, more than just a place to spend time.

As mentioned before, This goal is reached when you put yourself into your client’s shoes and wonder what you would appreciate if you were the one whose home is being renovated and decorated, and knowing how to capture those elements in the questions you ask your clients. One of my recommendations to achieve this, is to encourage them to join you wherever you are looking for pieces for them, because regardless of the definition of your camera, a picture can’t convey the feeling a piece transmits when you are facing it in reality. The same goes to every detail you use inside those spaces: drapery, wall colors, curtains and so on. This also helps shape your ideas more clearly, as you get to see the direction they are drawn to. For example, are your clients looking for vintage or modern designs? Are they interested in colorful spaces with many patterns or textures? This is when a good intuition comes in handy. They will give you both direct and indirect indicators of the path you should follow to make sure their rooms look as they want them to. Having learned that, all you have to do is to define and polish the base they just gave you, and guide them into the direction that will help them express their personality through the furniture.

Making or breaking a space depends entirely on the structure of work you establish, and to the intuition that comes from turning yourself into your clients’ best friend. After all, they are putting the place where they will be living for a long time in your hands. They wish to find something that makes them smile whenever they get back from work, because they feel comfortable in their own homes.
